Evelyn Antonysen is an artist from the North West of Tasmania
A respected teacher of art, her watercolours are evidence of an experimental and highly creative approach to her medium. Working wet in wet the washes of colour blend and run, evoking the evanescent nature of light and weather in Tasmania.
She depicts the coast with its rock platforms, little coves, rolling waves and fierce storms through the application of water and pure pigments to heavy hand made watercolour paper. She is influenced by Japanese Sumi-e practice.
This fluid impressionistic approach is also evident in other media that Evelyn enjoys such as encaustic wax medium. In contrast are the illustrative artworks, for example bird illustrations, which arise from keen observation skills developed through the study of natural Sciences.
